Clubs join forces to host open-water event
The Rockingham Masters Swimming Club and Masters Swimming WA are set to co-host the Rockingham Ocean Classic at the Rockingham foreshore for the first time on March 3.
The open-water race is supported by the City of Rockingham and is open to the public.
As part of the Masters State Open Water Championships, it features 1km, 2km and 4km swims.
Rockingham Masters Swimming Club president Erica Thomas said swimmers of all abilities and backgrounds were encouraged to join in the action and they did not have to be masters members to take part.
“You don’t need to be a fast swimmer to participate, Masters is all about having a go and everyone is welcome,” Thomas said.
“There will be surf club members on patrol on water craft so no swimmer will be left alone, no matter how long they take to complete the event.”
The swim will begin and end at the Val Street Jetty in front of The Cruising Yacht Club, with the course layout set to be a 1km rectangle.
Swimmers can register and check in on the day between 8.30am and 9.30am.
They can also sign up online beforehand at mswa.asn.au under the events tab.
