The Rockingham Flames were red-hot again at the weekend, securing two more wins across the men’s and women’s SBL competitions.

After a slow start against the Cockburn Cougars on Friday, the men’s team bounced back in the fourth quarter to force the game into overtime.

The scores sat even at 64 all heading into the fifth period but the Cougars managed to pull away with just 22 seconds to go.

In the nervous final moments, Justin Beard sunk two free throws to bring the Flames into the lead by one point.

Another consecutive free for Beard secured the win for the Flames with a two-point lead, 77 to 75.

The women had less of a nail-biter in their Cougars match-up, taking out the win 51 to 92. Hot out of the blocks in first quarter, the Flames led 29 to 14 at the first break and maintained their lead to claim their fourth straight win.

D’Lesha Lloyd starred, shooting 34 points to help the Flames to victory.

Saturday will see the men take on the Goldfields Giants in Kalgoorlie while the women have a week off ahead of their clash with Mandurah Magic on June 15.
