Fyfe board a cut above

Fremantle Dockers fans will be scrambling to hang their toes over this rare collector’s surfboard signed by two-time Brownlow medallist and Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe when it is put to auction on Saturday.

Branded identically to replicate the 2019 Brownlow winner’s playing jumper, including his number seven and his full signature on both sides of the board, the item is one of just two signed Fyfe surfboards in Australia and the only in WA.

Made by a Mandurah-based custom surfboard business and bought by Cut’N’Dunn Barbers for donation to the Secret Harbour Dockers Football Club, all funds raised from the auction will go towards the club’s operational costs and purchase of additional training equipment.

Secret Harbour Dockers Football Club director Tony Wootton said the auction — run by Ross's Auctioneers and Valuers — had already far exceeded expectations; when the Sound Telegraph went to print it had attracted 44 bids with the winning bid at $2250 so far.

“It’s definitely gone above what we expected. Even I’ve been a bit shocked about how well it’s been received in the community,” he said.

“It will be a great addition to any supporter’s collection and was signed during Fyfe’s Brownlow year, which is just awesome.”

The board can be viewed at Cut’N’Dunn Barbers on Oasis Drive in Secret Harbour until 4pm on Saturday, October 5.
