Kwinana MLA Roger Cook accepts Swimming WA vice-patron role

Deputy Premier and Kwinana MLA Roger Cook will become the new vice-patron of Swimming WA after last week accepting an invitation to take on the role.

Mr Cook, an avid swimmer in SWA’s Open Water Swimming Series, has long been a strong advocate for swimming in WA and a supporter of young West Australians learning to swim.

He has also been a keen supporter of the Kwinana Swimming Club in his electoral area and will now extend that support Statewide.

The announcement was made last Friday at the Kwinana Recquatic with Swimming WA president Louis van Aardt and chief executive Darren Beazley.

“It’s an honour to be appointed vice-patron of Swimming WA,” Mr Cook said.

“Swimming is an activity that people of any age or level of skill can enjoy. Promoting swimming is a great way to get people active and keep them healthy.”

Mr van Aardt expressed his delight at Mr Cook accepting the role and said swimming membership in WA had enjoyed enor-mous growth during the past few years.

“It is proven that the best way to be safe in the water is to be involved in high-quality, well organised swimming clubs coached by accredited professionals,” he said.

“Mr Cook is our second vice-patron and our hope is that with his involvement, he can highlight the importance of West Australians having access to quality learn to swim and club swim programs in high-quality facilities.

“We also hope he can secure partners in the aquatics industry to work with Swimming WA to ensure that our youngsters are proficient and safe in the water.”
