NBN rollout in city continues

The National Broadband Network has continued to roll out in Kwinana, with 2000 residences and businesses in parts of Wellard, Parmelia and Bertram able to make the switch.

The rollout comes as more areas of Kwinana are expected to soon see the NBN arrive, with parts of Orelia, Casuarina, Parmelia, Anketell and The Spectacles also expected to be available over the next week.

Remaining areas including Leda, Kwinana Town Centre, Medina, Naval Base, Calista and Wattleup will see about 5700 premises able to connect in the coming months. A spokesman for the NBN said consumers needed to be aware that the NBN would work differently to the current network they may be on.

“Consumers have to actively switch over to NBN services through a retail provider,” he said.

“Some consumers wrongly think the switchover doesn’t affect them as they only have a fixed phone, or are putting off switching as they find it overwhelming or confusing. For example, some older devices may not work over NBN and may need to be replaced.

“Importantly, NBN services will not work in a power outage.”

More than 14,000 homes and businesses in the area have access to the NBN, with final areas covering 9,000 premises in Hillman, East Rockingham, Rockingham and Cooloongup expected in coming months.
