Numerology and babies course adds up for some, city insists

The City of Kwinana has defended its decision to a host a Numerology and Your Baby event after it copped criticism online last week.

The Kwinana Public Library has allocated $200 to hosting experienced numerologist Jeanne Prosser, who will run an event aimed at teaching parents more about their babies’ future through the power of numbers.

Despite commentary on social media labelling the event as a “waste of ratepayers money”, the City defended its decision to subsidise the event.

In a statement, the City said it offered a variety of courses, in an attempt to cater for the community’s diverse interests, cultures, languages and aspirations.

“Whilst we are hosting the event, we do not endorse any concepts on offer,” it said. “We are simply providing access to information, for those who are interested.

“Not every course or workshop will suit every member of our community, and people are free to attend or not attend courses as they wish.

“We believe that good quality library services allow the individual the opportunity to encounter freedom of expression, uninhibited access to information and exposure to a range of opportunities and experiences.”

According to the City, a notification about the event was sent to residents via the City’s email database, with no complaints or concerns received.

The statement also said the City would take on board the response from the workshop, its detractors and its attendees, and would review community interest.

The same author was hosted at Joondalup Public Library last month, with the event well attended.
