Police call stay on crime

Kwinana Police are confident antisocial and criminal behaviour caused by a group of youths around the Calista and Kwinana area is at bay.

In November, the Telegraph reported more than 80 people had attended a community meeting to discuss the group of youths which had been linked to multiple offences, including burglaries, damage, stealing and antisocial behaviour.

Some of the antisocial and criminal behaviours had occurred around Callistemon Court and also Banksia Park retirement villages, leaving some elderly residents feeling vulnerable.

Kwinana Police Station officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Greg Hutchinson said one person had been charged in relation to damage, with several other people charged with alleged damage offences in a different area, believed likely the same people.

“We put a large number of resources into that area,” he said.

“Police were patrolling for an 18-hour period — not just in that area but in and out.

“The City of Kwinana also updated their CCTV and did a lot of work with the elderly in the area.”

In a separate matter, police will be keeping a close eye on the Edge Skate Park after recent reports of graffiti, antisocial behaviour and stealing.

Sen. Sgt Hutchinson said another issue was bushfires.

“We’ve had a couple of small bushfires in the area, which appear to have been deliberately lit,” he said.

“If you see suspicious people in the bush or people behaving suspiciously in the bush call as soon as you can.”
