An organisation that works to improve the literacy skills of students through encouraging reading to dogs held a forum in Rockingham last week.

Last Friday, founder of Story Dogs Australia Janine Sigley, board members, co-ordinators, volunteers and their furry friends came together to celebrate the growth and success of the program in WA.

Story Dogs, which began in Waroona in 2016, is now used in schools across WA, including Rockingham and Kwinana.

The program involves volunteers taking their dogs into schools, where students struggling can regularly read with the dogs who provide an attentive non-judgemental listener to build confidence.
