Rams on a rampage

Rockingham Rams and Baldivis Brumbies both got back to winning ways last weekend, earning victories over Halls Head and Waroona respectively.

Looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Mundijong last week, the Rams put in a dominant display as they thumped a hapless Halls Head, 20.13 (133) to 2.11 (23), at Anniversary Park.

Rams coach Scott Franklin praised his team for a solid effort across the board, in which Kyle Hinchecliffe stepped up after a few weeks in the reserves to boot six goals.

“We had one of those days where everything we did went our way,” Franklin said.

“Every time Halls Head made a mistake, we made them pay.”

Luke Dowling also starred for the Rams as he kicked four, while Cecil Edgill and Tyler Sutton kicked three each.

Seventeen-year-old Kyle Donaldson also had a solid game for a young Rams side that played with nine colts.

Meanwhile, Baldivis Brumbies grabbed a vital win over Waroona, bringing them level on points with the fourth-placed outfit.

In what was a tightly contested, low-scoring affair, Baldivis 7.7 (49) edged Waroona 4.9 (33) on the back of a stellar defensive effort at Parnell Street.

Baldivis coach Craig Hamersley said an improved second half showing swung the game for his side.

“It was a game of two halves, really. In the first half, we didn’t execute what we wanted to,” Hamersley said.

“We were rushing the footy in the first half and letting the pressure from Waroona get to us.

“After half-time, we were more composed, valued the possession a bit more and swung the game to our terms.”

Aaron Bowers booted three goals for Baldivis, while Josh O’Neil and Kyle Westwood also shined.

Defender Dan Griffin played a vital role, shutting down former Fremantle Docker and Waroona forward Kepler Bradley.

This weekend, the Rams face high-flyers Pinjarra while Baldivis play bottom-placed Halls Head.
