Raw singer in running for awards

Baldivis singer-songwriter Jasmine Atkins has been nominated for five awards at this year’s Western Australian Country Music Awards.

Atkins will vie for best emerging artist, female artist of the year, EP of the year for Key to My Heart, plus single of the year and video clip of the year for Sun Will Come Out Again.

The awards take place during the Boyup Country Music Festival in February, where Atkins will also make her full band debut.

Atkins is winning over audiences young and old with her raw and personal songwriting ability and distinctive vocals.

“I’m so excited to be making my full band debut at the festival,” she said.

“Boyup is one of my favourite times of the year and I love being part of it. There are so many amazing artists throughout the weekend. It’s going to be awesome.”

Atkins started performing at a young age, learning piano when she was three.

She taught herself to read music and was writing songs by her 10th birthday.

Atkins graduated from the CMAA Academy of Country Music in Tamworth in 2015 and has since received a host of accolades, including songwriter of the year at the 2015 WA Country Music Awards.

In 2016, she won multiple awards at the CCMA National Talent Quest and as a result headed to Norfolk Island for the Australia v New Zealand Trans-Tasman Entertainer of the Year Competition, where she took home the title of 2016 most promising artist.

Jasmine also participated in the 2016 WA Country Music Awards.
