Red Hatters celebrate decade in style
Members of various Red Hatters chapters flocked to Rockingham Cruising Yacht Club, sporting red and purple clothing and accessories, to celebrate the 10th birthday of Rockingham’s Red Hatters Raspberry Ripples Chapter.
Raspberry Ripples Chapter leader Helen Herbert said the original Red Hatters started in the US about 20 years ago and had since spread across the world.
“It’s all about fun, friendship and frivolity,” she said.
Empress of the West Bev Fussell, who started WA’s first Red Hatters group, Dinki Di Divas and then the Strawberry Tarts of Wanneroo, was also in att-endance to celebrate the milestone.
“It’s important for older women to have and maintain friendships,” she said. “Quite often, women outlive their husbands and also a lot of women relocate, so having a place to go and meet new people and socialise is great.”
