Nine members of the Rockingham Districts AFL Masters team will represent WA at the year’s National Carnival.

Nathan Shipard, Dwayne Stanton, John Rowe, Michael Wallace, Garry Ross, Bob Apps, Kim Reilly, Zeke Szmekura and Shane Wright will pull on the black and gold from September 29 to October 6 at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium.

It is the first time Shipard, Stanton, Rowe and Wallace have made the squad, while Ross, Apps, Reilly, Szmekura and Wright have previously represented WA at numerous carnivals.

The nine clubmates represent the largest contingent of players from a single AFL Masters WA club, highlighting how successful the club has been as it prepares to celebrate its 25th season in 2020.

Despite its success in providing State representatives, the club has had a tough time off the field in 2019 after being forced to find alternative training venues after losing access to Anniversary Park.

Club secretary Wright said the team was always on the lookout for new players and welcomed anyone over the age of 33. “We train all year round to maintain fitness and to provide support to our members and their families,” he said.

Training will begin over summer at Anniversary Park on Wednesday nights from 6pm. For more information contact club president Scott Nichols on 0421 089 361 or Wright on 0413 655 964.
