Rockingham Rams head PFL ladder after big win over Mundijong, Baldivis topples Halls Head
The Rockingham Rams have moved to the top of the Peel Football League ladder after a comprehensive 11-goal win over Mundijong Centrals on Saturday.
An unanswered six-goal first-quarter blitz saw the Rams open up a healthy margin before Centrals finally hit the scoreboard in time on with a goal to Callum Collard.
The second quarter was much quieter, with the Rams managing a single goal through Luke Dowling — the first of his six for the game — and Centrals slotting two majors on the stroke of half-time to reduce the margin to 22 at the break.
The Rams made amends in the third quarter, piling on another six goals, including three more to Dowling, and holding Centrals to just two behinds to open up a 60-point lead heading into the final term.
It took until the 20th minute of the fourth quarter for either team to find a goal, when Mundijong’s Grant Dunn added his second and his side’s final goal, before Chris Oliver and Dowling added the icing for the Rams to see them home 16.7 (103) to 4.12 (36).
Dowling’s six goals took him to 18 for the season, while Oliver, Jakob Janzekovic and Noah Hura added two apiece.
On Anzac Day, a five goals to zero opening term from Baldivis set the platform for a 38-point victory over Halls Head.
Joel Ritchie (six) and Blaine Johnson (four) kicked 10 of Baldivis’ 14 goals between them, while the Brumbies’ defence kept Halls Head goalless in the opening and final quarters in the 14.14 (98) to 9.6 (60) win.
The Rams top the table on percentage over Pinjarra, with the two sides set to clash at Sir Ross McClarty Oval, Pinjarra on Saturday, while Baldivis’ win took them to third spot ahead of their Sunday showdown with Mandurah Mustangs at Baldivis Oval.
