Warnbro Bowling Club members can look forward to playing bowls all year round regardless of the weather, with funding from both the Federal and State governments to secure new green covers.

With support from Warnbro MLA Paul Papalia and Brand MHR Madeleine King, the club received $150,000 in funding from WA Labor’s Local Projects, Local Jobs commitment and $20,000 in funding from the Stronger Communities Program respectively for assistance in building roof covers over two playing greens.

Ms King said the club approached her about the need for the covers so that members could play rain or shine, as well as encouraging people to take up the sport.

“These new covers will offer both shade from the sun and protection from the rain, allowing more people to enjoy playing bowls more often,” Ms King said.

“I am very pleased to have supported this great project which benefits this fantastic club and the many people who play bowls in Warnbro.”

Club president Dennis Pattullo said the covers would allow the club to hold extra events throughout the year and hopefully invite local schools and more of the community to use the facilities.

“We’re really thankful to Madeleine King and Paul Papalia for their support,” he said.

Mr Papalia said he was also pleased to support the project.

“They’re focusing on trying to encourage younger people to participate in a sport they might not otherwise have engaged with, so having the sun protection, in particular, gives them a bigger capacity to attract schools,” he said.

Construction is planned to begin in April and finish in July.
