Step back in time for Armistice Ball
The Safety Bay Ex-Services and Community Club and the City of Rockingham RSL hosted an Armistice Ball in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the armistice at Gary Holland Community Centre on November 10.
As part of the celebrations Comet Bay College students Savannah Sleeton, Shayden May, Shannan Marshall and Declan, Kane and Kyle Richardson ushered in the event dressed in World War I uniforms.
A WWI style newspaper boy distributed replica newspapers, which incorporated the evening’s agenda and menu, while the event foyer was decorated with WWI imagery, banners, paper poppies and a replica WWI bell tent — all made by the school’s staff and students.
Year 10 students also researched and created posters honouring 30 West Australians who served in WWI — some of them from the Rockingham area.
About 38 posters were on display at the school for the week, including on Remembrance Day and at Gary Holland Community Centre on the night of the ball.
