Students embrace history at ye ol’ fayre

Comet Bay College students put down their books and stepped back in time for a day of medieval mayhem last month.

The annual Medieval Fayre had students dressed in medieval attire and engage in activities suitable for the time period.

Activities included jousting, potion making, participating in medieval games and maypole dancing.

Humanities and social science teacher Joe Elson said medieval history was part of the HASS curriculum and the fayre provided a more hands-on approach to learning about the era.

“Students look at the economic and political systems of the era and how things have changed compared to back then,” he said. “We want to thank the P&C for its help because without them, the fayre would not be possible.” Students also worked on medieval-inspired projects, creating castle models, village dioramas, shields and clothes, which were displayed in the school foyer.
