Pilot dead after plane crashed into croc-infested dam in NT
A pilot whose plane crashed over crocodile infested waters east of Darwin has died.
Emergency services were called to Fogg Dam in Middle Point about 10.20am Sunday after reports a light aircraft crashed.
The plane reportedly had two people on board at the time.
A CareFlight helicopter and Search and Rescue were called to the scene, with a 29-year-old female passenger able to be winched from the scene by the helicopter.
She was uninjured but taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment.
The 63-year-old male pilot was found dead inside the plane.
A crime scene was established and investigations remain ongoing.
Police are expected to address the media on Monday afternoon following the incident.
Saltwater crocodiles inhabit the dam, with visitors urged to keep clear of the water’s edge, according to the Northern Territory Government’s website.
