Hardworking Hannah aims high

Athletics young gun Hannah Taylor is set to represent WA this week, with the 14-year-old from Baldivis set to compete in the All Schools Championships in Adelaide.

Hannah will fly to South Australia as she gets set to compete against national competition in discus, shotput and javelin events.

Since first competing in little athletics at the age of seven, the youngster has climbed the ranks of the sport, winning medals in the WA Athletic State Championships for the past three years, as well as representing WA at the Australian Junior Athletic Championship in Sydney in April.

Having qualified for the All Schools Championships in October, the South Coast Baptist College student has set her sights high for the championships.

“I want to get personal bests in every event,” she said. “My better events are shotput and discus — hopefully I can have a chance of winning a medal.”

In preparation for the championships, Hannah trains three times a week and competes twice — both with Rockingham Little Athletics Club and at the Perth Athletic Stadium.

In addition to her packed athletics schedule, the talented athlete also plays soccer at SCBC, with school coach Adi Juric stating her will to improve had rubbed off positively on the rest of the team.

“Hannah’s grit and determination shown on and off the pitch has been a revelation ever since her arrival at SCBC during the year,” Juric said.

Long-term, Hannah said she harboured dreams of one day becoming a professional sportswoman.

“I definitely want to be a professional athlete but I don’t know if that will be football, athletics or something else,” she said.
