It’ll be more than a month of comedy, cabaret and circus when Fringe comes to town this January.

The Rocky Fringe Festival returns this Friday. With 33 shows over three venues, there really is something for everyone.

Four Rockingham businesses are excited to bring the Fringe World Festival experience to the Rockingham community to enjoy.

The Rocky Fringe Festival program includes children’s shows, comedy, sketch & draw, dance, music, cabaret, burlesque, theatre, life drawing, music quizzes, tarot, and mediums.

Here are some of the highlights coming to town.

This one for the kids was a sell-out at Edinburgh Fringe and follows Fiddlefox and Baby Shark as they travel to different lands around the world seeking a lost friend.

The pair experience the sights and sounds of each culture through song, magic and story.

Aimed at kids aged eight and under, audience members get to take part in a choose-your-own-adventure style program, encountering friendly beasts such as kangaroos, elephants, crabs and brown bears.

One for the adults because it wouldn’t be Fringe without a bit of burlesque.

WA poet Sally Newman as the inhibited Miss Webster is guided by ex-Showgirl Madame Lash to embrace pleasure.

The show does a deep dive into ways women can explore pleasure in their own lives.

Accordion Ryan’s Pop Bangers

Britain’s Got Talent 2023 alumni Accordion Ryan was a hit at the 2022-2024 Edinburgh Fringe.

Accordion Ryan’s Pop Bangers features an hour of popular tunes from Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time to the dirty version of Khia’s My Neck, My Back played live on the accordion (hence the name).

There are also a few original musical comedy songs mixed in.

Diary of a (teenage) Diva

Perth diva Penny Shaw is better known by WA audiences for her work in the operatic scene.

She’s a regular cast member for WA Opera and was a finalist on Australia’s Got Talent, but her latest show sees her singing a very different tune — iconic 80s anthems.

“I rediscovered my teenage diaries on a trip back home to the UK and found 13-year-old Penny definitely had a lot to say,” Shaw said.

“From imagining her first kiss to being super competitive and equally obsessed with boys and musical theatre. For some people reliving their teenage diaries would be a nightmare, but for me I found comedy gold. I’m so excited to bring everyone back to their inner teenager.”

Penny will be accompanied by one of Perth’s premiere pianists, Joe Louis Robinson, at the Rockingham show.
