Construction company BGC has cemented itself as this year’s Christmas hero in Kwinana after it swooped in to save one of the city’s favourite events, the Lolly Run.

The City of Kwinana was facing having to cancel or postpone the beloved Lolly Run for the first time in 65 years after freight and supply-chain issues threw into question whether it would be able to secure the 32,000 packets of lollies required to carry out the event.

A call for help brought the leading construction and materials company to the rescue, securing transport of the pallets of goodies across 3500km of the country from Seaford, Victoria and delivering them on time to Kwinana on Tuesday, December 6.

Mayor Carol Adams said the City couldn’t be more grateful to BGC for helping save this year’s Lolly Run.

“The past few years have seen the Lolly Run continue to increase in size to the extent we are requiring more and more lollies so that our helpers can distribute them to the community over the seven nights that the event takes place,” Ms Adams said.

“BGC have really demonstrated what the Christmas spirit is all about by generously giving something wonderful back to the people of Kwinana.

“After our CEO Wayne Jack contacted BGC’s Sam Buckeridge and explained our dilemma, Sam recognised the importance of this event and immediately put into action a plan that helped us save this important Kwinana tradition.”

BGC non-executive director Mr Buckeridge said the company was “very pleased” to assist the City with the “longstanding and important community initiative”.

This year’s Lolly Run will take place from December 17-23, with four trucks driving on every residential street in Kwinana, with volunteers distributing lollies to the community.
