City of Kwinana offers $50 rebate for existing CCTV owners when they register it with WA Police’s Cam-Map WA

Anyone in the City of Kwinana with an existing CCTV system is now eligible for a rebate of $50 when they register it with Cam-Map WA. In a WA first, the City has partnered with WA Police to provide $50 rebates to local businesses and residents who register existing functioning CCTV systems with the Cam-Map WA database. WA Police said Cam-Map WA was a secure database that showed the location of voluntarily registered CCTV systems across WA. Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the City was the first to partner with the police to provide rebates for local CCTV registrations. “The City of Kwinana’s CCTV rebate scheme aims to increase the number of privately owned CCTV cameras registered through the WA Police Cam-Map system to provide additional intelligence in the investigation and prevention of crime,” she said. “This will also increase the level of communication and reporting from the community to WA Police. “To support this, the City is providing rebates of $50 for local businesses and residents that register their existing CCTV camera with Cam-Map WA. “Other Local Governments, like Karratha, have offered rebates for new CCTV systems while encouraging registrations with Cam-Map WA, but this is the first time rebates have been offered to incentivise the registration of existing CCTV systems.” The City said the knowledge obtained from knowing the locations of installed CCTV systems will support WA Police in investigations and ultimately enhance public safety within the community, and Police would contact the resident or business owner for footage should an incident occur.
