Federal election 2022: Re-elected Morrison Government would pay for Garden Island highway feasibility study

Liberal candidate for Brand Peter Hudson says a re-elected Morrison Government would invest $2 million into a Garden Island highway feasibility study. Commuters travelling to and from HMAS Stirling are currently limited to Parkin Street and surrounding roads to get across to Garden Island, with peak-hour congestion and noise unavoidable during the working week. City of Rockingham residents have raised concerns for years about increasing congestion and say a highway would ease congestion significantly. Mr Hudson said the study would help ease residents’ long-held concerns and determine the cost, scope and shape the highway would take. “This feasibility study will help us work out how to deliver a project that will fix the traffic congestion while also protecting our local environment. We can do both,” he said. Mr Hudson said the City of Rockingham had also thrown its support behind the study. The Liberal candidate also took aim at the Labor Party, saying that it “take(s) seats like Brand for granted”. “I am listening to the people I am seeking to represent, and the message I have heard loud and clear is that people want their Federal MP to do their job and fix this issue,” Mr Hudson said. Labor MP Madeleine King holds the seat of Brand with a 6.7 per cent margin but Mr Hudson is hoping to turn the seat blue at the upcoming Federal election.
