In a show of strength and love, field service fitter Rhys Whitehorn is taking part in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave to support his best mate’s seven-year-old son.

Mr Whitehorn will shave his beard and mullet for a second time, previously shaving his mullet during Adam Werner’s early rounds of chemotherapy when he was fighting a brain tumour during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This time around, Mr Whitehorn is raising much needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

He has already smashed his target of $1000 with the help of his employer High Grade Mechanical, which has supported by donating, promoting and hosting Mr Whitehorn’s shave later this month.

To show his continued commitment to the cause, Mr Whitehorn will also be re-shaving his hair at his local barber for every $100 raised over his $1000 goal.

Mr Whitehorn said this was his first time raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.

“It has been fantastic supporting such a great cause,” he said.

“It wasn’t just Adam’s family I have seen go through this, my grandmother had breast cancer and my cousin had been diagnosed with leukaemia.

“Being so young, when Adam saw his hair was falling out due to the treatment, he was in a bit of a shock, and he lost a bit of confidence. We wanted to ensure he felt all the love and support, and this was a very explicit way to show him.”

Adam is now cancer free and doing much better.

Mr Whitehorn has remained committed to shedding light on this important cause, “encouraging his teammates, work colleagues, friends, and my family to get involved and support this cause not just now, when I’m shaving my head and beard, but into the future”, he said.

“It’s a wonderful cause and will help a lot of families.”

The shave will take place at High Grade Mechanical’s head office in Rockingham on Friday, October 7 at 12pm.
