NBL1 West women: Rockingham Flames secure top four position in big Kalgoorlie win over Goldfield Giants

The Rockingham Flames women’s team locked away a top-four finish by scoring a fifth straight win this season, beating the Goldfields Giants 92-62 on Saturday. The Flames had to work their way into the contest in Kalgoorlie after the Giants produced a good start to take a seven-point lead into the first break. Having made the longest road trip in WA basketball, Rockingham found their feet in the second period, more than making up for the sluggish start with a 31-16 quarter. The Flames went on with the job from there to outscore the Giants 49 points to 27 in the second half to close out a 30-point win and improve to a 14-5 record, with just Friday night’s trip to Warwick remaining in the regular season. Casey Samuels continued her spectacular form with 24 points, five rebounds and two assists while draining 6/9 from three-point territory. Mehryn Kraker added 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Flames, Teyla Evans 15 points and 10 boards, and Christina Boag 11 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. This Friday’s game promises to be high quality between two finals-bound teams. Warwick sits just one spot lower on the NBL1 West women’s ladder than Rockingham and both teams are in winning form at the right time of the year.
