Straying from the traditional gunfire breakfast, Rockingham Navy Club is excited to offer something different this Anzac Day for the first time — a live concert.

It has hired cover band the Dire Straits Experience to perform at a family-friendly event at the club on Point Peron Road.

Club president Garrie Fowler hopes the change will give more visitors a reason to visit the club, particularly the younger brigade.

He said it was just as important to celebrate the men and women serving today as those who have served in the past.

“We usually only get 50-60 people at our Anzac Day event but this year we’re really hoping for a couple of hundred,” he said.

With a $15 sit-down breakfast, a bus to and from the Rockingham service and then the free concert, Mr Fowler hopes that the day and the club will provide more for everyone in the community.

“Anzac Day, for us, is a day of giving back,” Mr Fowler said.

“On this day we celebrate achievement, we commemorate sacrifice, and we remember the people that gave their lives in order to secure our freedom.

“It’s so important to keep tradition going for the next generation so they can learn and understand the sacrifices made by those who served.”
