Safety Bay Junior Tennis stars represent WA at Queensland comp
Juniors from the Safety Bay Tennis Club represented WA in two major Queensland tournaments over the June school holidays.
Sunmer Royall and Addison Franklin were selected for the State U11s team in the Margaret Court Cup.
Theresa, Raelyn and Tanaya Emelio competed in the Cairns Junior Age tournament and achieved some great results.
For some of the girls, this was their first time in a State competition and first time playing against some of the best in their age group from across Australia and New Zealand.
Raelyn won her age group for the U12s and sister Tanaya wasn’t far behind, finishing third in the same division.
The Emelio sisters were also part of the Safety Bay U15 Division 3 Tennis West Summer League team alongside Zayah Baker, Taleah Philips and Eva Lings, with the team securing a win for Safety Bay and Theresa being named MVP for the division.
Mum Latoya Emelio said a highlight from the trip was seeing 10-year-old Raelyn playing on open court against the number one-ranked girl in far north Queensland.
“It was a great experience for her and I always enjoy watching the girls compete,” she said.
Raelyn said she was most excited about being able to train with her old coach Anja Tomic in the lead up to the competition.
When asked about what advice she would to younger athletes she said: “never give up and keep on pushing themselves”.
