In the quiet suburb of Shoalwater, an unassuming suburban home is proof that you can never be sure of what actually happens behind closed doors.

The home has been labelled “Kink Corner” on Airbnb and there is hardly a weekend when it isn’t booked.

Unlike other Airbnbs that offer ocean views, a pool or a “quiet weekend retreat”, this Airbnb offers whips, chains and handcuffs.

Kink Corner is owned by sexologist Jasmine, who for obvious reasons didn’t want her full name used.

Jasmine has been an Airbnb Superhost for three years, has a 4.92 rating and is a “guest favourite”.

“I am a sexologist and a family and marriage therapist and I realised through my training that people want to experience particular things and sometimes they can’t do that safely at home because there’s children or they’re renting or things like that,” she said.

“I heavily focus on kink and non-stereotypical relationships and helping people walk through … you know, ‘What the f***’s wrong with me. I like this thing over here’. Or ‘I want to try this. How do I bring it up without hurting my partner?’. Or ‘How do I how do I tie up my partner without hurting them?’.

“Or like, sometimes people say ’Yes, you can do XYZ’. And then they do XYZ and they go ‘Oh, I’m a little bit wobbly. I’m a little bit vulnerable’. But who do you talk to? Well, you can talk to your girlfriend at the pub.”

Jasmine said she had regular bookings, including couples looking to get away from their kids.

“Really the options, especially in Perth, is to go to a swingers or a BDSM club and that brings an element of being watched,” she said.

“Where with this place you can order a pizza, have a bit of a laugh and no one is watching you.”

Jasmine also said the equipment was expensive and Kink Corner gave people a chance to try before they buy.

She said the equipment also gave people with disabilities, bigger people or older people with mobility issues a chance to have sex without putting pressure on their bodies.

Clean-up is something else though and involves more than just washing the sheets and mopping the floors.

Jasmine also does it herself as she doesn’t trust anyone to do it to her high standards.

“Our assumption is you’ve touched everything and everything that we’ve brought, we can sterilise,” she said.

“For example, we don’t have penetrating kinds of toys down here. We’ve got silicone sort of stuff I can put it into a UV cleaner.

“You can get toy cleaners, but we only go for stuff that we can put into a steriliser.

“We assume you have sat on everything and then we start at the front and we work our way through.”

The house rents out for $369.70 a night and includes a swing, a St Andrew’s Cross, a set of stocks, a massage table, a cage, an outdoor bath and a shower. And everything is weight-rated.

Jasmine also makes sure the house is stocked up on alcohol wipes, towels, condoms and individual packages of lube.

As for parties — Jasmine is sure they have happened but made it clear this was a retreat for couples out of respect for the neighbours.

“Most people, honestly, they don’t want the cops rocking up,” she said.

“You know, they don’t want to have the neighbours saying ‘hey, keep it down’. They’ve organised a babysitter, they’ve organised work, they’ve spent the money.

“I’m targeting established relationships and people new to the scene. If you’re just starting out in kink, working out what you like and don’t like, there’s probably enough in that house to keep you really busy.

“We don’t attract people who come in large groups, doing very noisy play or heavy impact with screaming; that’s not what we’re set up to support.”

She would like to offer another house north of the river one day.

The reviews for Kink Corner say it all: “We had a blast. Exactly as shown in the photos. We have already booked dates for our next visit. Perfect private getaway.”

“What an amazing little escape, your excitement hits you as soon as you walk in the door and see everything on offer, great set up, one night is definitely not long enough, will be back that’s for sure.”

“My husband and I had lots of fun playing in this well-set-out house.”
