Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village war memorial works complete in time for Remembrance Day

The Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village’s war memorial has received a facelift after it was damaged during renovations to the area.

The works have been completed just in time for this year’s Remembrance Day.

The upgrades include a new paved path which, from a bird’s-eye view, looks like a memorial cross, as well as signs dedicated to those living in the village who have served.

Resident and Vietnam veteran Graham French said the works had gone above and beyond what he could have imagined.

“It just looks so great,” he said. “We are going to try and get it registered as an official site.”

The memorial rock has part of a tree petrified in the stone.

“When they dug the quarry out, there were three or four big blocks, and some of the guys brought them over and we chose this one. The tree in it just stood out so much to us,” Mr French said.

“We’ve heard that no one in Australia has a memorial like this.

“The support from the village has been incredible. A lot of work has been done, and so many homeowners have donated their time to help create this unique memorial.

“It’s great to have something like this in your very own backyard.”

The village will be holding its Remembrance Day service on November 11 with a short service at 10.30am and one minute of silence at 11am.
