Sustainability a driving force for Kwinana council

Sound Telegraph

Driven by sustainability, Kwinana Town Council has introduced a new vehicle to its corporate vehicle pool.

Chief executive officer Neil Hartley said following a trial, the council could commit to using more hybrid cars in the future.

‘‘It is becoming increasingly important that as an organisation we take appropriate actions to lessen the impact we have on our environment and this stretches from the amount of paper we use to the types of cars we drive,’’ Mr Hartley said.

‘‘The hybrid car will be monitored for fuel efficiency and whole-of-life costing and we are hopeful that investigations will show a very positive change.

‘‘If results are as good as we are hoping, it is possible our vehicle fleet will move more towards the hybrid direction.’’

The council has been trialling diesel passenger vehicles, which are twice as fuel efficient as petrol vehicles.
