A group of 32 students from high schools in the Rockingham, Kwinana and Cockburn will take part in the Kwinana Industry Council’s six-day iMEN Project.

The program was launched last Wednesday and aims to provide an insight into the many career opportunities available in the Kwinana Industrial Area.

KIC director Chris Oughton said he had no doubt students selected for the 2016 project would walk away with a rich knowledge of industry and the career paths suited to them.

“The iMEN Project has been designed in such a way that it allows local high school students to see what industry is really all about from inside the gates,” he said.

“We often hear from students that they just weren’t aware of the amount of career opportunities available to them within industry, and that is really what this program is all about, engaging local students with those opportunities.”

This year’s KIC member companies, which include BP Refinery, CSBP and Fremantle Ports, have organised site tours for the students in an effort to engage them with companies that could become their future workplaces.

Mr Oughton said the iMEN Project would equip the students with a wealth of information to help with their studies and career options.

Students will be guided through a series of workshops, including research into industry, career choices and education pathways, the use of social media, personal branding, resume writing, and preparing for an interview.

On the final day of the program, principals, teachers, family and industry members will be invited to join the students at a special ceremony to celebrate the students’ journey.
