A high school in Perth’s south hit a huge fundraising milestone on Friday as staff and students exercised non-stop for Telethon.

More than 450 students and 60 staff at Rockingham Senior High School had their annual ‘try-a-thon’, where they ran, walked, skipped or danced for five hours to raise funds for sick kids in WA. The school has now raised $500,000 over the past 11 years for Telethon after raising more than $57,000 at this year’s event.

Rockingham SHS principal Steve Mounsey said two students managed to raise $2000 each. “We are a pretty small school with about 1000 students, and in an area where kids don’t have much, but the way everyone digs deep and gives back to the community is amazing,” he said. Seven sports presenter Adrian Barich and Fat Cat were on hand to celebrate the milestone. with the school on Friday.

“The school’s priority is having a positive culture so days like this highlight all the positives our students do.

“The kids have been fantastic and we celebrate this success with them as without the kids not reaching out for donations it wouldn’t be possible.”

The student’s fundraising efforts highlight Telethon’s theme for 2024: Incredible Together.

The new theme celebrates the ongoing commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children but also the extraordinary WA community that continues to make Telethon possible.
