Every kind of good time is on our list this week as we take a look at what’s best in the South West.
1. Apia Good Times
The Apia Good Times Tour is returning to Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Sunday at 4pm, bringing another stellar line-up of Australian music legends. Daryl Braithwaite, Kate Ceberano, Jon Stevens and John Paul Young will take to the stage to perform their hits separately and together for a show that will have you up on your feet and singing along. 2. Slammers action
State Basketball League action returns to the Eaton Recreation Centre on Friday night. The Printsync South West Slammers will be looking for a win in front of a home crowd when they take to the court against the Rockingham Flames in round 10 of the competion. It will be an especially tough battle for the women’s team, as the young side search for victory against last year’s champions. The women tip off at 6.30pm, followed by the men at 8.30pm.
3. SWFL action
Round six South West Football League action will get under-way with two twilight fixtures on Saturday night. Busselton will host Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, while South Bunbury will take on Carey Park at Hands Oval. The rivalries are set to continue on Sunday, with Donnybrook hosting the Harvey Bulls, the Eaton Boomers venturing to Collie to play the Eagles and Augusta-Margaret River tackling the youthful Bunbury Bulldogs.
4. Bringing the love
Perth rockers The Love Junkies will play new material when the band returns to the Prince of Wales Hotel on Thursday. The four-piece band has released the new singleI Had A Party Once ahead of'''' working on a new album. The band toured the United States earlier this year and will be supported by Filthy Apes during the Bunbury performance, which starts at 8pm.
5. Something fishy
A quirky exhibition will have audiences entertained when it has its official opening at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries on Friday night. So Long and Thanks for All the Fish features six artists who have called the South West home at some point in their lives. The opening begins at 6pm and the exhibition includes a number of different artistic styles, with influences from Bunbury’s relationship with water.
6. Spirited connections
Medium Deb Webber will try to connect people with their loved ones in spirit at the Lord Forrest Hotel on Friday. She will walk through the crowd, giving spontaneous readings in what promises to be a sad but at times humour show. The show will begin at 7.30pm with time for questions, teaching and meditation.
7. New X-Men movie
The latest movie in the X-Men franchise hits the big screen at Grand Cinemas in Bunbury on Thursday. As the fate of the earth hangs in the balance Raven, played by Jennifer Lawrence, with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their newest nemesis. X-Men Apocalypse also stars Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac and Australia’s Rose Byrne. Contact Grand Cinemas for times and tickets.
8. Vintage Fashion Show
More than 80 years of quirky and glamorous fashion will be on display at a Vintage Fashion Show on Saturday at St Boniface Cathedral. Beginning at 2pm the event will feature evening and day wear, designer labels and dresses, with an afternoon tea also scheduled. Tickets are $40 and can be bought from Central News in Victoria Street or at the door on the day.
9. Boyanup markets
The Boyanup Farmers Market will hold its next get-together on Sunday from 8am at Boyanup Memorial Park. The markets take place on the fourth Sunday of each month, and will feature a variety of new stalls and old favourites, with Nannup Lavender finally set to re-join them. 10. Trotting
Take the family to enjoy a night of high-quality pacing action at the Bunbury Trotting Club on Saturday. The club will host a full race meeting with food and drinks available at the course. Check the club’s website for exact race times and fields to be released later in the week.
