24-hour tussle for Telethon in Rockingham
A new challenge has been set for Telethon with The Arena Mixed Martial Arts Rockingham club set to wrestle for 24 hours in an attempt to raise $30,000 for WA's sick children.
The Roll for a Reason segment will include the club's members performing their best Brazilian jujitsu wrestling against celebrities to raise money for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.
Club instructor Simon Smith said the reason behind Roll for a Reason was to incorporate jujitsu into Telethon but also do something worthwhile for the children at PMH.
"I think a lot of people don't really see the true meaning behind jujitsu and martial arts in itself, but we know here that a lot of it is about not giving up and that's what we want to show to the kids up in PMH as well as the people in Telethon," he said.
"If we can do that, then we are winning."
Club member Helen Sarcich said she had challenged Sunrise co-host David "Kochie" Koch to a wrestle and fellow fighter Brad Richardson had challenged Fat Cat for a bit of fun.
"It will be nice to get out there and raise awareness about our sport and also our club and raise money," she said.
"It will be really good fun."
Mrs Sarcich said PMH had helped her son with injuries in the past and it was nice to be able to give something back.
This year's Telethon will be held across the weekend of October 25 and 26.
