50 affordable homes given green light
An affordable housing project which will provide more than 50 homes in Baldivis has been given the green light.
Metro South-West Joint Development Assessment panellists last week approved the project from Access Housing Australia for 51 apartments at Nairn Drive in the suburb.
A report put before City of Rockingham councillors late last month outlined plans for the three-storey residential development, which will include six one-bedroom, one-bathroom units, 12 two-bedroom, one-bathroom units, and 33 two-bedroom, two bathroom units.
Access Housing chief executive Garry Ellender said the project would be the organisation's 11th affordable housing development and would be known as Jervis Rise.
He said it was would provide the perfect opportunity for people to access affordable housing in Baldivis.
"This exciting development is conveniently located close to Baldivis town centre and a range of amenity services, including public transport routes," he said.
"Sale prices will start at less than $300,000, which helps ensure people on low to moderate incomes, first-homebuyers and others seeking affordable housing in Baldivis can access what has become one of Australia's fastest growing suburbs."
The development will provide 55 covered residents' and visitors' parking bays, accessible from Sherry Street.
Conditions for approval included the retention of natural landscape areas, the establishing of lawns and reticulation and the provision of six short-term bicycle parking spaces.
