A 20-year-old Rockingham man fronted court on Monday on allegations he used social media to engage in sexual conversations with what he thought was a 14-year-old boy.

Martin James Walsh-Garner was charged with four counts of using electronic communication to expose a child under 16 years to indecent matter.

Online Child Exploitation Squad detectives arrested Mr Walsh-Garner when he allegedly arrived at a location where he had planned to meet the boy.

Rockingham Magistrate's Court was told Mr Walsh-Garner had "some disabilities" and the matter was adjourned so he could seek legal advice.

Mr Walsh-Garner is expected to enter a plea at his next court appearance on October 6, 2014.

He was released on $10,000 bail with $10,000 surety and his bail conditions were not to leave WA, not to have any unsupervised access with any child and not to use any social network sites for communication.

If you have any information relating to child abuse or exploitation, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
