Cool dudes set for Rockingham Foreshore gig

Inspired by the religion based on the main character in cult comedy classic The Big Lebowski, Rockingham duo Daily Caucasian like to think of themselves as chilled-out guys.

Guitarist and vocalist Ben Nilen said he and friend Jake Hatch turned a corner musically last year after parting ways with boy band Big Girl's Blouse and decided their fondness for the Dudeism way of life should form the basis for their new band name.

Nilen said the pair, set to perform on Australia Day, had since established their own funk-pop-acoustic style and looked forward to releasing their first EP, named As It Is In Your Bungalow in reference to their favourite film, later this year.

"Dudeism is Jeffrey Lebowski's way of being cool and taking it easy," Nilen said.

"It's a bit like pacifism. We liked the idea of it because we are pretty relaxed guys.

"But we're also very passionate about our music and have written quite a lot of stuff."

Hatch said the duo had played in the Rockingham-Kwinana region the past year and also performed in Fremantle and north of the river.

He said the friends looked forward to entertaining crowds at Australia Day celebrations at Rockingham Foreshore next Tuesday.

"People can expect pumping, feel-good acoustic tunes," Hatch said.

"We don't want to be a background acoustic act."

Daily Caucasian will join Chain Reaction Brindy and Nasman Donovan, Dylan Atkins, Callon Leam and the 2015 winners of the City of Rockingham Festival of New Talent, with entertainment kicking off at 3pm.
