Double dose of culinary delights awaits
Diners of the popular Kent St Deli will get a taste for creativity when its expansion is unveiled next month, taking over the old tattoo parlour premises.
Owners Shannon and Brooke Whitmore are excited to take on the expansion, which will double the business' capacity to 92 seats across from its existing cafe space and curb-side dining into the new "calm" meeting place, featuring "great artists".
"It will bring Kent Street alive, we want to create a community within a community, a space to be inspired and connected," Mrs Whitmore said.
Mr Whitmore said they were 100 per cent ready to expand into the new premises, which would provide more space for a cool room and preparation area for the catering side of the business.
"It will also be a creative working space, where businesses can hold workshops or meetings for up to 20 people and have it catered for," he said.
Mrs Whitmore said the venue was constantly packed at weekends and customers were sometimes turned away because of the line of people waiting to place an order.
She said the extra seats would reward loyal customers but a change in cafe layout would allow for two tills, one for take-away orders and another for dine-in customers.
Mr Whitmore said the expansion would allow him to express his culinary creativity with monthly dinners for up to 60 guests, each with a different theme.
The pair said they prided themselves on offering hand-made food cooked on-site, including sauces and chutneys, good-quality coffee by WA coffee roaster Rubra and the ability to cater to dietary requirements such as gluten-free.
"People's food trends have changed - they don't want fast food but good food," he said.
