Faltering Rams look to avoid wooden spoon
Rockingham Rams' season continued in disappointing fashion on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 76-point loss away to Pinjarra Tigers at Sir Ross McLarty Oval.
The game was fought out in difficult wet conditions, with the Rams taking a seven-point lead into the first break after goals from William Main and Michael Coy.
Unfortunately for Rockingham, third-placed Pinjarra's superiority became clear after the first quarter. Despite being matched by the visiting side in the initial stages, Pinjarra managed to reverse roles by half-time with a seven-point lead of their own.
The Tigers kicked away strongly with 11 second-half goals to finish 14.8 (92) to 2.4 (16) winners, remarkably keeping the Rams scoreless in the second and third quarters, and to one point in the final term.
Losing keeps Rockingham second from bottom on the Alcoa Peel Football League ladder, with a battle against fellow strugglers Mandurah Mustangs to come next on Sunday.
The Rams sit one place above the Mustangs thanks to a greater percentage, and will be hoping to almost ensure the club avoid the wooden spoon with victory in its final home game of the season.
Mandurah themselves will be seeking to overcome the disappointment of a one-point loss to Baldivis Brumbies on Saturday, succumbing to a 9.9 (63) to 9.10 (64) defeat at home.
