The Rockingham Flames women's team advanced to the SBL semifinals for 2014 while the men's team were not so lucky, losing their game 3 quarterfinal on Saturday night.

The Flames women beat the Willetton Tigers 89-70 at Mike Barnett Sports Complex on Friday to claim their quarterfinal series two games to nil and set up a semifinal battle with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

The women have had an outstanding season, winning their first 17 matches and 20 of their 22 for the regular season, and despite the Tigers finding some form, they proved no match for Rockingham in the quarterfinals.

Samantha Whitcomb finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Rockingham, with Darcee Garbin contributing 20 points and 13 boards.

Kaye Tucker also added 15 points and four boards while Jacinta Bourne added 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists and a steal. Rockingham's men's team then won game 2 on Friday night 81-78, with Cooper Land top scoring with 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Ryan Godfrey contributing 17 points, six rebounds and two steals.

That set up a deciding game 3 on Saturday night, with the Eagles prevailing 92-81.

Rockingham might have been vying for the minor premiership throughout most of 2014 and finished the regular season in second position in the standings, but the season for the Flames is now over after the number seven seed East Perth won game 3 on Saturday night in Rockingham by 11 points.

Cooper Land top-scored for the Flames with 22 points and eight rebounds, with Godfrey adding 14 points.

Taylor Land added eight points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
