Plans for a 12-storey tower for Rockingham Beach Road were rebuffed last week, when State planners voted against the ambitious project.

The Metro-South West Joint Development Assessment Panel agreed with City of Rockingham councillors' concerns the building, earmarked for 45 Rockingham Beach Road, was too tall and lacked the appropriate front and side setbacks from the street.

Panel members agreed the proposed development was inconsistent with Town Planning Scheme No. 2.

Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said the proposed 12-storey development would make it the tallest in Rockingham.
