The days are hotter and tennis is back, bigger and better than ever at the Rockingham Tennis Club.

The RTC will host its open day on Sunday from 1pm to provide a chance for the Rockingham community to visit the club, find out what is on offer and have a free hit.

The RTC, located on the corner of Kent and Wanliss streets, has provided the community with an opportunity to keep fit, play tennis and socialise for more than 70 years.

This summer is looking busy, with a record number of pennants teams and an array of social events and fixtures.

The RTC has teams entered in the three to 12-year-old HotShots program, 12s, 14s and 16s as well as men's and women's divisions in the Tennis West Pennants Competition, which begins later this month.

RTC president Bron Voitkevich said the club, in partnership with the Klein School of Tennis, had developed players of an international standard and hoped to continue producing quality players in future.

"The pennants competition is about developing world-class players and also about providing the opportunity for children and adults of all levels to train and play competitive tennis," he said.

The Klein School of Tennis conducts three training lessons a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays at 4.15pm and Saturdays at 8.30am.

The RTC is a community-based club that aims to promote social inclusion and healthy wellbeing through participation in tennis.

"Tennis is a great way for members to get out and meet like-minded people, have fun and keep fit," Voitkevich said.

"The club has a wonderful location in summer, just a block up from the beautiful Rockingham foreshore."

The RTC hosts adult social tennis four times a week, including Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday mornings and Thursday evenings, with low-cost junior social tennis every Tuesday afternoon.

The club's open day runs from 1pm to 4pm and the entrance is via the Rockingham Bowling Club carpark on Kent Street. See the Rockingham Tennis Club Facebook page for further details.
