Pair play Activ role in organisation

A motivated duo celebrated four decades of service with disability employment provider Activ at the Rockingham branch's 40th anniversary on Friday.

Employees Ian Heggie and Colin Veitch have worked at the not-for-profit agency since it opened in 1975, performing a range of jobs from canteen to timber works.

Mr Heggie said he loved coming to work every day.

"I have lots of great friends here and have worked on labelling, mail-outs and now I work in packaging - its heaps of fun."

Activ Rockingham business services manager Leo Hickey said the event was a great opportunity to celebrate the important role Activ played in the community.

"We provide a better life for people with disabilities - we build their confidence and independence," he said.

"It's amazing what people with disabilities can achieve.

"There are no jobs here that don't have an end product which is bought."

He said the branch's 63 employees worked on a range of projects, including timber pallets, pelmets, textiles, packaging, specialised hospital laundry bags and special fuel valves, to service industries such as building.

A number of employees also received awards for 10 and 25 years of employment, and enjoyed a giant birthday cake.

Across WA, Activ employs 1200 staff to support about 2000 people with a disability to achieve their goals, overcome challenges and pursue a better life.
