Perth’s smoke haze: DFES issues warning for those between city and Albany after burn-offs, bushfire

A warning has been issued for a huge blanket of smoke across WA on Wednesday morning.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a smoke alert for the haze it warns could affect those between Perth and Albany, including the Capes in the South West.

The department says the smoke is due to bushfires south of Perth and a burn-off near Walpole in the Great Southern.

A bushfire in Port Kennedy on Tuesday destroyed 80ha of bushland before it was declared “contained and under control”.

DFES says the smoke was expected to last throughout Wednesday.

People are being urged to shut their windows and doors, turn of air-conditioners and drive slowly with headlights on.

“If you cannot see clearly, pull over to the left, keep your headlights and hazard lights on and wait until the smoke clears,” DFES said.
