Rockingham fails to get a good soaking in October

Rockingham recorded a drier and hotter October, despite storms in the Perth metropolitan area during the month.

According to Bureau of Meteorology data, Garden Island weather station's average for October is 30.4mm, with rain spread across six days, yet so far this month only 24mm has fallen over eight days.

As for the temperatures, Garden Island recorded an average minimum of 14.4C and average maximum of 21.8C, about 1C higher than the average.

The hottest day of the month so far was 30.4C last Wednesday and the coldest was 17C on October 6.

Mandurah, however, collected just 5.2mm, considerably shy of the long-term average of 32.3mm.

BOM media and communication manager Neil Bennett said Mandurah's low rainfall was the result of showery events instead to frontal events.

Mandurah also recorded a hotter average maximum temperature of 23.2C, 2C warmer than the long-term record.

The hottest day of the month so far was 33C on October 15.

Looking ahead to November, the region can expect average daily temperatures of 25C-plus and minimums of 14C, with at least 25mm rainfall anticipated.
