This year has been a whirlwind of triumphs for Andiamo Cafe, which earlier this month was recognised as the best Italian restaurant in WA.

Owner Andrea De Luca said he was shocked to be named the best in the west, above about 400 Italian restaurants in Perth, by the Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence.

"It's a highlight to be the ultimate winner in WA and be able to put Rockingham on the map," he said.

Since starting the business in 2010, Mr De Luca has strived to achieve his vision, creating a successful family Italian restaurant in the heart of the community.

"It's been a dream to strive for excellence - we aren't trying to be Italian, we are Italian," he said.

"We scored enough points and are now nominated for the best Italian restaurant in the country."

Mr De Luca believed his secret to success was using WA produce where possible and creating everything in house.

"The key is to keep it simple - Italian comes down to the chemistry of what goes in the pan first," he said.

With more than 500 trained judges and 1500 entrants, the Awards for Excellence set the national benchmark.

Mr De Luca said he was excited to represent WA and Rockingham at the national awards in Melbourne in October.
