A major police incident is unfolding in Victoria Park with police urging residents to lock their doors and stay inside after reports of a man with a gun.

The West Australian understands a man was carrying a firearm in the vicinity of McMillan Street on Monday night.

Police issued an emergency alert to residents in the Victoria Park area via text message about 9.10pm.

“Police are responding to an incident in McMillan Street, Victoria Park,” the alert said.

The alert warned people to secure their homes and stay inside until the matter was resolved.
