Willetton attack puts Mariners on rout 66

Rockingham-Mandurah had a difficult time with Willetton and the weather at the weekend in WACA Premier Cricket.

The start of two-day fixtures proved problematic as the Mariners enter this Saturday's play attempting to avoid outright loss.

The round 5 first-grade fixture was moved from the first to the second Burrendah ground because of Friday's rain but Willetton won an important toss and sent the visitors into bat.

The Mariners were skittled for just 66, in 35 overs as only Mitch Green (26) and Brayden Sutton (18) made it to double figures.

The Dragons slowly saw themselves in before getting the first innings points, two wickets down. At 3-83, they saw the opportunity to make Rockingham-Mandurah see off a nasty 10-over period before stumps.

Josh Smith was dismissed, lbw to Perth Scorchers evergreen Brad Hogg, in the last over for 18 to leave Rockingham-Mandurah at 1-29 in their second innings.

Second grade also surrendered a first innings result on day 1 after batting on a seaming wicket at Lark Hill. The Mariners lasted half the day for 98 but as the conditions dried, the wicket became more playable.

Willetton made hay while the sun shone and have a 46-run stumps lead at 3-144.

Rockingham-Mandurah got the best out of the 52 overs of play possible in third grade. Matt Edwards snared 3-13 off 11 overs and Matt France chimed in with two wickets as Willetton struggled to 6-143 at Burrendah 1.

Opener Kirk Bennett (69) provided some steel in fourth-grade's batting effort before Eric Botha (90) provided the fireworks in the Mariners' 234 all out.

At stumps, Willetton made their way to 0/16, in a game that is a fifty-fifty call either way.

In Twenty20 Caitlin Crocetta made yet another score, in the Mariners' eight-wicket loss to Midland-Guildford. Crocetta's 24, was the standout in the visitors' 8-57.

The Swans got to 2-58 in the 14th over and move to top spot in the T20 competition with a 3-2 win-loss record while pushing Rockingham-Mandurah, now 2-3, out of the top four with half the season remaining.

The juniors had more to smile about during the past weekend with three victories from four games.

Jazmyne Roberts smacked eight boundaries in 57 from just 39 deliveries in a 20-run loss to Wembley Districts in the under-18 match at Lark Hill. The under-15, 14 and 12 sides all recorded wins.
