A blockbuster western derby is West Coast’s next opportunity to break another hoodoo hanging over the club in its remarkable first season under Daisy Pearce.

The Eagles have never beaten cross-town rivals Fremantle, but are leaving the club’s history in its wake this season — and are even daring to dream of finals.

Pearce has completely reshaped West Coast already this season and the club sits inside the top eight after six weeks.

It makes for a bumper round eight clash between the two sides at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, with the Dockers’ dominant 6-0 record in derbies now in danger.

But Pearce, who will coach in her first clash with Fremantle on October 19, said this year’s meeting was about even more than football — even though her club’s finals hopes could hinge on it.

The match coincides with Telethon — the State’s biggest charitable event — with a number of activations around the ground to support some of Western Australia’s most vulnerable children.

“It’s an exciting opportunity more around the event and Telethon, I know that there’s a lot of work going in behind the scenes and whilst in footy you play one week at a time as it gets closer we’ll do everything we can to support it,” Pearce said.

“Given how important the Telethon charity is we’ll be right in behind it trying to make it the biggest spectacle possible, and look forward to it when that week rolls around.”

“Anyone who’s getting their calendars ready for three weeks time, get down to Leederville Oval and let’s get as many people here to see the Derby but also support the Telethon as well.”

The Eagles face Port Adelaide at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday before a clash with Hawthorn in Melbourne the following weekend.

West Coast have bridged the gap in recent years, with the past two derbies decided by a combined 11 points. Eagles young gun Ella Roberts was even awarded best-on-ground the last time they met.

The club is already enjoying its best-ever season, but the Dockers would be their biggest scalp to date as they charge towards a return to finals.

The clash was originally scheduled at Optus Stadium but had to be moved due to turf works at the Burswood venue.
