Dribble Podcast: Perth Lynx MVP Ally Wilson is being driven to end 2900 day finals drought against Townsville

Perth Lynx MVP Ally Wilson may have already won two WNBL championships, but she’s also spent more than 2900 days between finals wins, so she’s not about to let her team’s season end without a fight. The Lynx will enter Wednesday night’s away semifinal against Townsville Fire knowing they must win to keep the best-of-three series alive after being beaten at home on Saturday. A defeat would be a bitter blow for the players who returned after losing last season’s grand final, but Wilson has even more motivation than most of her teammates. The Lynx are her fifth club, having previously played for Adelaide, Townsville, Sydney and Bendigo, but she hasn’t tasted finals success since holding the WNBL trophy aloft in 2017. “A big part of me coming here to Perth was that I wanted to play finals basketball and get back to that,” Wilson told The West Australian’s The Dribble Podcast. “It’s been two thousand and something days since the last finals basketball that I’d played. That’s the reason you play basketball – to play at the pointy end of the season and have that team success. “I’m definitely hungry to get this win on Wednesday, bring this thing back here to Perth and take it to a game three.” Wilson’s outstanding season was rewarded with selection in the All-WNBL First Team and the Lynx MVP award. She dominated on Saturday night with 32 points and nine assists, but her inspirational effort wasn’t enough to lift the team to victory. All eyes will be on Perth’s start to the game after lacklustre recent efforts forced them to constantly play catch-up. But Perth have played their best basketball when their backs are against the wall and Wilson has led the way “My entire career I have always been a big time and big moment player,” she said. “I live for these moments of high pressure where everything is on the line. I can’t wait for Wednesday night because it’s do or die. I feel like that’s when you see me at my best. I’ve always lived for that and thrive in those type of moments.”
