LeBron James claims another NBA record in Lakers win
Lakers veteran LeBron James has broken the NBA record for most 30-point games in Los Angeles' 119-102 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
Australia's Dyson Daniels scored 13 points for the Hawks, but the night belonged to James who hit an 18-foot jumper midway through the fourth quarter on Friday to secure the 563rd 30-point game of his 22-year career.
That broke the record set in 2003 by his childhood idol Michael Jordan.
Jordan set his mark across 1072 career games over 15 seasons, while James went one better in his 1523rd regular season appearance over 22 seasons.
James turned 40 last week and is among the few remaining active players who personally witnessed Jordan in his 1990s prime with the Chicago Bulls.
In their home win, Austin Reaves scored 20 points, and Anthony Davis 18 for the Lakers after sitting out the team's 114-106 victory over Portland on Thursday night to rest his sprained left ankle.
Los Angeles has won seven of nine to move into fourth place in the Western Conference.
Trae Young had 33 points and nine assists for the Hawks, while Daniels picked up his 13 points and three rebounds in 31 minutes of court time.
In Denver, a Victor Wembanyama steal in the dying seconds secured a three-point win for the San Antonio Spurs over the Nuggets, the star centre finishing the night with 35 points.
Wembanyama picked off a Nikola Jokic pass with four seconds left and fed Devin Vassell for a game-sealing dunk as the Spurs hung on 113-110.
Wembanyama finished with 18 rebounds to help the Spurs overcome a big night from Jokic. The three-time MVP had 41 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists, falling just short of his 15th triple-double.
San Antonio led by one with seconds left and Denver had a chance to win. Jokic tried to pass to a teammate but Wembanyama intercepted.
Michael Porter then missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game to overtime.
Porter finished with 22 points for the Nuggets, as their three-game winning streak ended.
In Dallas, Evan Mobley collected 34 points and 10 rebounds to fuel the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers to a 134-122 victory over the host Mavericks.
One day after being named the Eastern Conference Defensive Player of the Month, Mobley put on a show at the offensive end.
The power forward scored 18 points in the second quarter, finishing the night 14 of 21 from the floor and three of six from 3-point range.
Caris LeVert scored 17 points off the bench while Darius Garland recorded 16 points and had nine assists for the Cavaliers, who posted their ninth straight win - all by double digits.
In other games, the Detroit Pistons beat the Charlotte Hornets 98-94, the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Washington Wizards 132-120, the Sacramento Kings dealt with the Memphis Grizzlies 132-126, the Oklahoma City Thunder held off the New York Knicks 117-107, the Orlando Magic silenced the Toronto Raptors 106-97 and the Boston Celtics beat the Houston Rockets 109-86.
